Dutra Leads Boys Swim to Victory Against Burrillville
Junior Cam Dutra lead the boys swim team to a 33-21 victory against Burrillville. Dutra won both the 500 freestyle in 6:12.34 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.19. These strong performances come shortly after Dutra qualified for the state meet in both the 200 and 500 free during the last dual meet. He will represent the boys team February 24th at Brown Univeristy.
Junior Mark Tavares also took home two individual wins in the 200 free (3:06.91) and 100 free (1:18.93).
Freshmen Sam Ward and Ben Harley also contributed with second and third place finishes in the 50 free. Ward also took home third in the 100 free in his first attempt at the event.
Dutra, Tavares, Ward, and Harley combined to win both the 200 free and 400 free relays.
The boys swim team will face-off against the Tolman/Shea Co-op next Friday Feb 9th at the Pawtucket Boys and Girls Club at 3:30pm.
Wheeler and Tyska Qualify for States in Win Against Burrillville
The Mt.Hope Girls swim team won their meet against Burrillville 53-23.
The win was highlighted by state qualifying performances by freshmen Alyssa Wheeler in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:16.20 and Hope Tyska in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:21.00. Wheeler went on to also win the 100 backstroke later in the meet with a 1:20.20.
Wheeler was not the only double winner during the meet as senior Kerrie Larson decisively won both sprint events, the 50 (28.51) and 100 free (1:09.02) as well as anchoring the winning 400 free relay. Larson combined with teammates senior Caroline Parker, Alyssa Wheeler, and sophomore Jordan Borge for that win.
Borge shined in the 200 free winning the event with a personal best time of 2:41.25. Borge also anchored the winning 200 free relay teaming up with Parker and freshmen Annie Kryzwicki and Dana Cobery for the win.
Sophomore Drew Tyska continued her dominance in the distance events dropping another 26 seconds off her best time in the 500 for a 7:28.78 and the win. Junior Maddy White took second in 8:22.12.
The girls swim team will take on Tolman next Friday at the Pawtucket Boys and Girls Club at 3:30pm.
